birthday favors for school

Hi friends,

One thing I didn’t realize was a “thing” was handing out birthday favors at school for your child’s birthday. My daughter started coming home with little goodie bags saying “oh yeah, it was so and so’s birthday today”.

I wasn’t prepared for that and had no clue families even did that! Of course my daughter wanted to bring something for her birthday too just like all of her friends. After a lot of thought, we decided on bringing in mini “make a cupcake” playdough kits!

If you’re trying to come up with some fun birthday favors for school, I’ve gathered a few fun and easy ideas you can totally steal!

The BEST Birthday Favors for School

1. Popcorn

Popcorn is such an easy and inexpensive idea! Plus, who doesn’t love popcorn? Add a printable tag that says “Thanks for making my birthday POP” or simply write one yourself, tie it to a popcorn bag and they’re ready to go!

2. Chalk

Chalk is a great classic and non-food idea! I know this particular pin says its a valentines gift but you could totally use it as a school birthday favor idea too! Another more birthday related idea is a tag that says something like, “my birthday has chalked up to be a great day with you!”.

3. Backpack chains

I love ideas like this because they’re so personal! You could make this gift at home with your child and hand them out pre-made. Another idea is to turn it into a diy kit by adding all the pieces to a small baggie or container and letting them make their own. I would add a tag that says “thanks for making my birthday off the chain”!

4. Sunglasses

How fun and easy is this idea? We made these birthday favor sunglasses for my sons 5th birthday in Pre-K but would totally work for other ages too. I even made the tags I used into a free printable you can download and use yourself!

5. Mini Playdoh

This birthday favor idea is sweet and extra simple! A perfect last minute idea when you don’t have a lot of time to hand make gifts. Plus, playdoh will forever be a classic – you simply can’t go wrong!

6. Slime

Slime is all the rage with elementary aged kids! Make a goodie bag with some slime making essentials and add a tag with a slime recipe. I think this may be a better option than sending home actual slime for two reasons. One, it turns it into a fun craft for the kids. Two, if you send home slime some of the parents may want to harm you (Lol, kidding.. kinda).

7. Popsicle holder

I’ve totally seen is as an end of the school year gift idea but it would make an awesome birthday favor too! All you need are some popsicle holder sleeves, ice pops and a tag! If you have a Cricut, you could even customize them by adding each child’s name. I would include a tag that says something like “Thanks for helping make my birthday super cool!”

8. Pop-its

All of the kids are currently obsessed with pop-its! They’re the new fidget spinner basically and they don’t seem to be going out of style any time soon. Your kiddo will definitely be the coolest kid in the class if they hand out pop-its as their birthday favor!

9. Hot Wheels

This is a super fun idea, especially if your little one is into cars! Don’t worry, hot wheels aren’t just for boys. All the girls in the class will be happy to receive this birthday favor too!

11. Dinosaurs

Another Valentines idea that you can easily turn into some great birthday favors for school! Since it doesn’t specifically say anything about Valentines, this free printable would totally work but you could also make your own. I would personally have mine say something like “Thanks for making birthday Dino-mite!” instead.

12. Make your own monster

Okay, let me add this idea as a homage to what even made me aware of birthday favors for school. This was the first goodie bag my daughter brought home from one of her classmates birthdays. I thought it was super cute and she had fun playing with it while I made dinner.

13. Crayons

Crayons are absolute no-fail go to options for just about anything! Also, I love this free printable, it’s super cute. You can add a box of crayons to this printable or use a stacking crayon like shown here. Either way, it’s a fun birthday favor!

Put together a diy bracelet kit as a cute birthday favor. Personally, I love the craft type of ideas because I think they’re more useful than just a random “thing”. Plus, an idea like this is something they can keep and get use out of!

15. Glow sticks

Lastly, how cute is this glow stick birthday favor idea? Add a note that says “My birthday is brighter celebrating it with you” and you’re good to go! Plus, let’s be real, everyone loves glow sticks.
