Hi friends,
The end of summer may seem like a bummer for kids who just spent 2 months sleeping in and playing outside all day but it doesn’t need to be!
Get some of your neighborhood kids and family members together and host an amazing back to school bash this year! It’s the best way to kiss summer goodbye and get pumped for a brand new school year.
First, what even is a back to school bash? A back to school bash is a party thrown before the start of the school year! You can throw one with your own kids or invite their school friends too. They often include fun activities, snacks and crafts.
How to Throw a Back to School Party + Back to School Bash Ideas
1. Pick a date and time
It’s best to throw a back to school bash close to the start of school. I would choose a date within 2 weeks of school starting back up!
If you plan to invite other friends, try reach out to them and see what days work best for everyone involved.
2. Pick a Back to School Bash theme
Your party can simply be “back to school” or you can go even further and pick a theme!
If you’re having a bunch of girl friends over something like a spa day might be cute. Similarly, if it’s all boys, a superhero party would be a blast too!
Check out this insanely fun bubble bash idea! What kid doesn’t love bubbles? This would be a total dream of mine as a kid!
This s’mores party idea is the perfect send off to summer! Nothing better than getting together, roasting s’mores and getting excited for the school year ahead!
A book themed party would be so adorable! You could even select one certain book to center the theme around. Imagine a “If You Take a Mouse to School” themed party!
How about a “It’s gonna be a sweet year!” party? You could run with this idea so many different ways – I’m thinking cupcake decorating, a cute little donut stand, candy party favors.. So sweet!
How stinking cute would a back to school brunch (or breakfast) party be? Fresh fruit galore and mini pancakes would make this one delicious party!
2. Get your decorations
What’s a party without decorations?
School themed yard decorations
Back to school hanging ceiling decorations
3. Decide on a menu
Next, decide what you’re going to be serving!
Once you have your theme picked out, this will be way easier. Include you kiddos in scrolling Pinterest to find the perfect snack ideas.
Here are some fun general school themed snacks ideas!
These “apple” pretzels are a perfect school themed snack!
How cute are these graham cracker pencils!?
The perfect no-prep snack! Print off a cute “book worms” sign and you’re good to go!
“School RULES!” Rice Krispie treats!
Bake a giant cookie, draw on some glasses and you’ve got “one smart cookie!”
4. Plan some fun activities
Now, on to the fun part! The games and activities!
Since it’s a back to school party, it only makes sense that the games should be centered around school related things. You can even put together a few prizes!
Don’t worry, we have plenty of ideas to get the party started!
This is a total twofer! A fun scavenger hunt that also doubles as a party favor full of school supplies!
Make a time capsule! Have all the kids and their parents write letters to themselves for the end of year!
Have all the kids cut and decorate strips of paper to make a back to school countdown!
How about a game of back to school bingo? Make sure you have a small prize for the winner!
This is the perfect game to play if you’re inviting the neighborhood kids. Kids all write a couple facts about themselves, crumping the paper, throw the balls at each other and then try to find whose ball it was!
5. Send out invites
Next, it’s time to send out invites!
This isn’t necessary if it’s just your own family but you’re inviting others, it’s a must!
There’s nothing wrong with sending out Facebook invites but if you want to take it up a notch, have your kids help write and send out physical invites.
