We found the cutest school themed snacks for back to school that are both fun and delicious!
Hi friends,
Back to school season is in full swing and the kids are eager to start a new school year!
My kids are always so excited for the back to school because we make it an event in our house. We have a few must-do back to school traditions but this year we wanted to start a new one – special first day of school treats!
I dont know if you’re on TikTok or not but we finally got our hands on the super viral snackle box and it made the perfect little container to put their after school snacks in. I’ll link it below! ⤵️
My youngest little one who isn’t in school yet and I grabbed the ingredients and got busy making these sweet school themed snacks. Here’s what we made and a few other fun ideas too!
This post is all about school themed snacks for back to school!

Cute & Easy School themed snacks
1. Wafer cookie pencils
I think these were the true star of the show and had all of the kids impressed! ✏️✨
These back to school pencil wafer cookies might look complicated but I promise they’re super easy to make!
Ingredients:
- Vanilla wafer cookies
- Candy coating
- Mini chocolate chips
- Food coloring (optional)
Instructions:
1. Use a knife to snip off the corners of the wafer cookies.
2. Using two separate bowls, melt the white candy coating in the microwave according to the instructions on the packaging. Add a drop of red food coloring to one bowl for the pink and leave the other white!
3. Spread a small layer of pink candy coating on bottom the cookie where you didn’t cut anything. This will be the eraser of the pencil cookie.
4. Next spread a small layer of white candy coating to the tip of the cookies that you made. This will be the shaven part of the pencil.
5. Lastly, add a single mini chocolate chip to the very tip at the point of the pencil. Ta-da – that’s it!
Note: We bought white candy coating, melted in two separate bowls and simply added a drop of red food coloring for the pink but you could also just buy pink candy coating for one less step.
2. Apple pretzels
Since we already the candy coating and food coloring on hand we went ahead and made these fun apples out of pretzels too! All you need for these are pretzels, red candy coating, and brown/green mini M&M’s.
Ours came out a bit messy (my partner was an adorable four year old so that’s okay lol) but they were really easy to make. Simply cover the pretzel in the candy coating an add the M&M’s before the coating hardens!
3. School Book Cookies
If you have a Trader Joe’s near by, grab some of their Cinnamon Schoolbook Cookies! That’s what we used in our back to school themed snackle box.
Otherwise, you can totally make your own alphabet cookies at home too!
We own and love these mini alphabet cookie cutters that make baking your own cute cookies super easy.
4. Cheese Stick Rulers
Next, I had originally seen someone make cute little rulers out of Rice Krispie treats and wanted to do that but if I’m being completely honest, combined with the other items we made that day, it was just too much lol
Instead we opted to using a sharpie to draw on the packaging of some string cheese sticks. Super simple, easy and turned out pretty cute if I say so myself!
5. Pencil treat bag
We didn’t end up making these that day but this is another totally cute school themed snack option 🙂
Other Easy School Themed Snacks
Here are a few other school themed snack ideas that don’t require any crafting, baking or making!
6. Smarties
I remember in elementary school, our teacher would randomly hand out Smarties whenever she saw everyone working hard. Ever since then, when I think of Smarties, I think of school so I had to include these!
7. Sour gummy worms
I told the kids these were “book worms” who love to read and learn just like them!
8. Goldfish
Goldfish are another snack that always remind me of school for some reason. Anyone else?
9. Apples/Grapes
Apples are basically synonymous with school, teachers, back to school, etc., right?
Since we already did the apple themed pretzels we decided to opt for grapes instead. Plus they added a nice hint of green to the snackle box that just made it look complete in my opinion!
